Food Prices Affecting Farmers
A recent article shows that a decline in food prices is taking a toll on farmers. As prices lower, margins are rising and as a result Farmers are ending up with a smaller share of the final sale. In addition, the recession led to a drop in demand, which then led to an overage of stock on hand. The article also states that "agricultural exports are down 21% so far in 2009." Adding to all the other issues, is the fact that the regular costs farmers incur is 16% higher than it was in 2007. With this new data out, now more than ever is an important time to think about America's Farmers. Consider supporting charities that assist Farmers like Farm Aid.
