Did you know one out of every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime? Or that only one-quarter of all physical assaults are reported to the police? In 2007, there were 248,300 reported sexual attacks in the United States. Recently, singer Rhianna was the victim of an assault by then-boyfriend Chris Brown. During October, which is recognized nationally as domestic violence awareness month, communities across the country will be participating in events and campaigns to shed light on the issue of relationship violence. Many non-profit organizations dedicated to ending domestic violence provide services to victims as well as education and training for their communities. Some top-rated charities working nationally include Equality Now, Family Violence Prevention Fund, and the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network.
