Hi Britt, My name is Kimberly and I work with Royal Caribbean International on their PR and social media efforts. As you probably know, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake caused major destruction in the Caribbean nation of Haiti, on Tuesday. Royal Caribbean is extremely saddened to hear of this news; thoughts and prayers are with the Haitian people right now. Royal Caribbean International is one of the leading investors in Haiti through their private destination at Labadee, and has nearly 30 years of involvement in the country and many relationships. Royal Caribbean will continue to monitor the situation in Haiti. President and CEO, Adam Goldstein, will be posting on his blog to inform readers of updates and what Royal Caribbean’s involvement will be in the humanitarian relief efforts. Royal Caribbean is working with Food for the Poor, a relief organization that provides direct assistance throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Anyone interested in assisting can make a donation www.FoodForThePoor.org/RoyalCaribbean . Adam’s posts can be found here, http://www.nationofwhynot.com/blog/. Be sure to check back regularly for updates. If you have questions, please let me know. Thank you,Kimberly
Thanks for posting that information, very helpful and a good resource for future natural disasters...now if only we had done a better job in our own country.
One more thought -- they say the issue is 'first responders'--as in, they don't exist, think Katrina, tsunami--the chaos hits, the panic ensues (survival) -- the news always reports 'looting' as if it's a surprise, as if we are supposed to be civilized in such situation. The Red Cross is the best we have, but they are a behemothic beast--I have experienced it first hand, they take days to 'meet needs' and by then you've already figured it out yourself. But by all means, text your dollars to them--they are the best hope we have to getting water to those poor people stuck in the rubble. But we need first responders--trained to go in and hit the ground running and be able to deal with mobs who want whatever they can get, and set up triage, and instead of 45 medical tents and 4 doctors, we have more doctors than tents.just a thought.
