Cyclone Pam: How to Support the Relief Efforts in Vanuatu

On March 13, Tropical Cyclone Pam hit the island nation of Vanuatu as a Category 5 storm. Initial reports indicate that 3,300 people were displaced by the storm and nearly a dozen were killed. Besides the immediately relief efforts, officials are warning of a serious food shortage in the coming months as crops were  destroyed in the storm.

Given the significant damage to the infrastructure combined with the remoteness of the country, charities are finding it challenging to provide immediate relief. But we've been able to identify the following highly-rated charities that are either on the ground already or are working to launch a response.

But before you give:
  1. Determine what it is that you want your donation to accomplish and be sure to select the charity offering that specific type of aid. To do that, simply click on the charity’s name and view its rating page (where you can learn about its Financial Health, Accountability & Transparency). Once you are satisfied with its rating, then you can jump to the charity’s website (we link to each charity’s site from its ratings page) to learn more specifically about the type of assistance the charity is providing in relation to Typhoon Pam.
  2. Review our Crisis Giving Tips to ensure your donations do the most good.
