World Whale Day!

credit: Isaac Kohane
Saturday, February 18th, is World Whale Day, a celebration of the largest animals on Earth.

Established in Maui in 1980, World Whale Day raises awareness about whales and the conservation efforts designed to protect the giants of the ocean. Charity Navigator evaluates several organizations that focus on whale and marine mammal conservation. Among them are the Ocean Conservancy, a 4-star organization focused on science, research, and policy; Center for Coastal Studies, a 4-star organization which focuses its efforts on marine wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, and Clearwater Marine Aquarium, which both raises awareness through its aquatic exhibits and works on rescue and rehabilitation of local marine wildlife.
