Charity Navigator Celebrates #MandelaDay

Here at Charity Navigator, we know that when we donate, volunteer, or discuss the causes we’re passionate about, we’re exercising our ability and responsibility to change the world. Some make this their lives' work by assisting for government agencies or nonprofits. Few make this their legacy by living entirely to better our world through their service. Nelson Mandela is one of these few.

In commemoration of his activism, philanthropy, leadership, and anti-apartheid work, the United Nations General Assembly marked July 18th, Mandela’s birthday, as Nelson Mandela International Day. This an excellent day to reflect on where we’ve come in the past year, where we still need to go, and how you can help progress our world forward.

This year, the day is focused on taking #ActionAgainstPoverty in South Africa. In this spirit, consider volunteering with a charity in your area or supporting one of the awesome, highly rated charities below:

Matthew 25: Ministries Caring for a needy world with the things we throw away
CHOICE Humanitarian The end of poverty is building people, not projects
Concern Worldwide US, Inc. Targeting extreme poverty
CARE Defending dignity, fighting poverty
endPoverty.org Transforming lives through microenterprise
Oxfam America The power of people against poverty
KickStart International A systematic approach to the end of poverty
