Charity Navigator Highlights Organizations For Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Started in 1987 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Domestic Violence Awareness Month is observed annually in October. It grew out of the Day of Unity and is set apart as a time to mourn those who have died because of domestic violence, celebrate survivors, and connect individuals working to end domestic violence.

In this post, Charity Navigator is spotlighting highly-rated organizations who are working to end domestic violence.

In the video, Laura Israel Sinrod, Senior Staff Attorney of Her Justice, a highly-rated organization working to aid women affected by abuse and poverty, speaks to some of the key issues we should be thinking about at this time and says, “One thing we can think about is solving the problem of domestic violence in a more global way… [we can] think about what are changes in policing that we can affect? What are changes in city and state policy that will help families that are suffering in this way?... That’s a new way of looking at domestic violence on more of a societal or policy level.”

Many of us are not in a position to directly affect policy change, but we can support the organizations that are committed making these changes reality. Please find a list of highly-rated national organizations working to end domestic violence below.
