Highly-Rated Charities Working to End Sexual Assault

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Throughout the month, communities and organizations hold events to raise greater awareness of sexual assault and provide education to individuals on ways to prevent and end sexual violence.

Sexual violence is a public health, human rights, and social justice issue. We must work together to stop it in our towns, cities, and communities. The theme for SAAM 2018 is “Embrace Your Voice.” Events will focus on helping individuals use their words and stories to promote safety, respect, and equality to end sexual violence and stand with survivors.

Rape is not part of the penalty

Just Detention International (JDI) is a health and human rights organization that seeks to end sexual abuse in all forms of detention. JDI is concerned about the safety and well-being of all detainees, including those held in adult prisons and jails, juvenile facilities, immigration detention centers, and police lockups, whether run by government agencies or by private corporations on behalf of the government. JDI has three core goals for its work: to hold government officials accountable for prisoner rape; to promote public attitudes that value the health and safety of all people in detention, and to ensure that survivors of this type of abuse get the help they need.

Sexual Assault Center
☆☆☆
The healing starts here

The Sexual Assault Center (S.A.C.) opened its doors in 1978. Today, we are the only place in Middle Tennessee that is exclusively dedicated to providing counseling to child and adult sexual assault victims. In addition, we have programs that educate students on how to recognize and prevent sexual assault. Our counselors are specialists in the field and have worked with more than 20,000 survivors since we opened our doors. Approximately half of our clients are children. With treatment, clients can begin to heal – moving beyond trauma into living healthy, productive lives. We take a holistic approach and work with the entire family. Beyond individual treatment, we offer group therapy sessions for children, teens, men, women, and families of survivors.
