Keep reading to learn about five awesome organizations working to improve the lives of North Dakotans and their communities.

Missouri Slope Areawide United Way (Bismarck, ND)
☆☆☆☆ + Impact
Live united.

Missouri Slope Areawide United Way funds 33 partner agencies and 66 community programs. Serving the West Central Region VII, MSA United Way covers 10 counties in North Dakota. First formed as the Community Chest in 1927, the organization was prompted by local merchants who were annually plagued by dozens of solicitors representing local and statewide agencies. They wanted to centralize their philanthropy and donate through an umbrella organization. At the time, the Community Chest was a part of the Bismarck Association of Commerce. In 1975, the Community Chest became the United Way of Bismarck and in 1985, the United Ways of Bismarck and Mandan merged, becoming the Missouri Slope Areawide United Way.

Friends of Chimbote (Fargo, ND)
☆☆☆
Transforming the lives of the poor through education

Friends of Chimbote firmly support their founders Father Jack and Sister Peggy's conviction that education is the primary factor in which the poor may overcome their desperate circumstances. However, they also recognize that basic human needs must first be met so that children may study without lethargy stemming from malnutrition, illness caused by inadequate access to health care, or lack of sleep due to no bed or home. They also need a place in which to study, funds for school supplies and uniforms, as well as other basic necessities. To respond to these needs and to ultimately transform the lives of the poor of Chimbote through education, Friends of Chimbote supports four primary areas of competency.
