American Idol Stops Giving Back

The extremely popular and successful American Idol "Idol Gives Back" episode will not happen this upcoming season. Citing concerns over unemployement and the overall weak economy the program does not feel it would be appropriate to ask for donations from the American public. The show, a charity telethon, has run during American Idol's season 6 and 7 and has raised over $130 million. The money was then dolled out to various charities. The timing and reasoning is curious as these charities most likely could use the money now more than ever.

As a 501 (c) (3) organization itself, Charity Navigator depends on public support to help donors make informed choices. Please consider investing in the future of Charity Navigator by making a donation today.  Donate now >>

Now is precisely the time for American Idol to give back. It is really sad that charities are hurting so much in these times when lots of people might need a helping hand.
