Just as program analyst Katie Woolf was completing her
blog this morning about the 0-star
Disabled Veterans Associations, we came across a
TV investigative report about another veterans charity --- the 1-star
Wisconsin Paralyzed Veterans of America. What made investigative reporter Aaran Diamant take a closer look at this group? The fact that the professional telemarketer soliciting for this charity keeps 85 cents of every dollar they collect! As a result the Wisconsin Paralyzed Veterans of America spends more than half of its budget on fundraising with only about a third going to help veterans.
At the end of this report, Mr. Diamant tells viewers that "you're better off hanging up and donating to the organization directly."
We couldn't agree more!
(The story also highlights the 1-star Special Olympics Wisconsin's high fundraising expenses.)
