As depicted in the map below, the number of confirmed cases of swine flu and related deaths continues to grow. Here’s how some in the philanthropic community are responding.
- The CDC Foundation, via its Emergency Preparedness & Response Fund, is providing funds to CDC responders so that they “immediately purchase the equipment, supplies or services they need to respond to the outbreak situation in their area.”
- Direct Relief International sent special respirators to several health clinics in California and Texas. The charity says it has offered assistance at the national, state and local level.
- Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation is working with the CDC to help combat the outbreak.
- Healthcare providers, like the Mayo Clinic, are working closely with the CDC, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security to provide proper care to its patients and to assist in our country’s response to this outbreak.
