Attention Board of Director members, potential members and all who are curious!!!

Nonprofit organizations are required to have a board of directors. The trouble is that it is hard to build a strong and sustainable board. Many organizations find themselves stuck with a mediocre one.

It is for this reason that Colorado's Secretary of State Scott Gessler is promoting a five-part eLearning series entitled 'Board Education and Effectiveness.' The project is aimed at helping nonprofits train and strengthen their boards of directors."

If you are contemplating joining, are already involved or know someone that is, we urge you to pass this on, so that people have a better idea of what they are getting into and what their responsibilities are once they do.

You can access the “Fiduciary Duties of Nonprofit Directors” module at: http://www.sos.state.co.us/pubs/charities/boardTraining.html

Definitely useful! I am an officer on the Board of a small, local cultural group, and the President doesn't treat the Board like a "team". He talks to members individually, planning projects, often telling them not to tell other members of the Board!
