A Day Dedicated to Our Fallen Soldiers

As most people around the United States are aware, this upcoming Monday is Memorial Day. Although the day often features barbecues, beautiful weather, and a day off for most, it comes secondary to the true reason of why the day will forever be of significance. Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor the countless number of men and women who have lost their lives while serving our country.

Our fallen soldiers are frequently commemorated by way of parades, local cemetery visits, and family remembrance. Another useful and effective option to honoring our military is through donating to the many charities who diversely support our troops. 3 and 4-star charities such as the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and the National Military Family Association provide scholarships to the surviving spouses of fallen service members. In addition, 4-star charities like Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and Homes for Our Troops provide care for Veterans who are still alive. More than $2.5 billion gets raised annually to the 40,000 plus U.S charities that have military-related missions.

Amidst the rest and relaxation that the start of summer brings, take some time out of your weekend to honor and respect the men and women who gave up their lives to ensure a life of freedom for us. If you are having trouble making a decision on which charity to donate to, don't worry, as we've already put together a list of charities for you to look into, some worthy of funding, and others who are not.

As a 501 (c) (3) organization itself, Charity Navigator depends on public support to help donors make informed choices. Please consider investing in the future of Charity Navigator by making a donation today.  Donate now >>
