Charity Navigator's Cross-Country Tour: Arizona

Making our way south, the next stop on Charity Navigator’s Cross-Country tour is Arizona. In this series we aim to recognize a few of the highly-rated charities doing important work in each state.

Arizona, or the Grand Canyon State, is home to both desert and forests, as well as the Grand Canyon (as its nickname suggests). While the state often conjures up images of the red buttes and desert sands the northern part of the state is home to many forests and some may be surprised to know there are actually several ski resorts within the state. Today we’re looking at some of the highly-rated organizations serving the people and communities of this uniquely diverse and beautiful state.

Understanding Charitable State Registrations

This guest post was written by our friends at Harbor Compliance.
There is an excellent chance that the organization you are about to support with a financial contribution is incorporated in one of the 41 states that require charitable solicitation registration, and an even better chance that the organization is fundraising in one of those 41 states. In either case, the organization needs to comply with state law and register to solicit charitable contributions. State registration laws exist, in part, to protect donors, and while you may not care to know the ins and outs of registration laws in every state, you do need to know that they exist.

This year’s march was a rally to encourage women to get out and vote in this year’s midterm elections. The march has a long list of sponsors and partners committed to the mission of the movement. Continue reading to find information and ratings about some of the march’s lead sponsors.

Highly-Rated Charities Helping Victims of the California Mudslides

Just weeks after devastating wildfires ripped through the hills of Southern California, the area was hit with massive rain storms that dumped inches of rain and caused disastrous mudslides.

The mudslides, concentrated in Santa Barbara County, have affected much of the oceanside community of Montecito. Homes have been destroyed, 17 people have been reported dead and 43 are missing, while hundreds more are waiting to be rescued. Charity Navigator's Guide to Giving the Gift of Warmth

Up and down the East Coast people are bundling up and digging out after yesterday’s winter storm. After shoveling and, in some cases, re-shoveling driveways, sidewalks, and street-parked cars, most of us retreat back indoors to warm up with a cup of tea and wait for the sun to begin its melting magic. For too many people, however, a warm home is not a guarantee. Some lack access to sufficient heat in their homes while others are without homes all together. For those of us fortunate enough to have a cozy place to return to there are a few simple things we can to help others through the cold months.
