Charity Navigator Celebrates Black History Month

Each February the United States observes Black History Month. This month is intended to honor the history, struggles, and triumphs of black people in America and across the world.
There are a number of excellent charities across the country that are working diligently to promote black health, education, rights and community development in February and throughout the rest of the year. Charity Navigator has your guide to supporting one of these outstanding organizations this month.

Charity Navigator’s Hot Topics seek to highlight outstanding organizations working on a particular issue or providing support following a disaster. During Black History month you’ll find a list of highly-rated organizations promoting black history and culture, health, civil rights, education and training, and community development.

History & Culture charities, like Facing History Facing Ourselves and the National Civil Rights Museum, celebrate the important events, individuals, and culture of black people across the world.

Health charities, like the National Health Law Program, cure diseases, treat, and support our sick and disabled, seek improvements in medical treatments, and promote public understanding and awareness of particular health risks, diseases, and disabilities.

Civil Rights charities, like the Advancement Project and Equal Justice Initiative, support the passage and enforcement of laws and other social measure designed to protect and promote reform. These organizations defend civil rights as well as engage and advance social action.

Education & Training charities, like Rainier Scholars and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, make learning possible for students of all ages, from preschool to graduate school. These charities may also focus on leadership and professional development for adults.

Community Development charities, like Community Voices Heard and Headwaters Foundation for Social Justice, promote economic growth and stability through programs that increase access to affordable housing, stimulate our communities, and enhance our public and private institutions.

Please take a moment to check out our Black History Month Hot Topic to find a full list of more than 45 exceptional organizations working on these important issues all year long. And, while you’re on our website you may be interested in our American Heart Month Hot Topic too.
