Charity Navigator's Top 10 Tuesday: Immigration

This week’s news reminds us that America is a cherished place. A country shaped by our experiences and cultures, and the experiences and cultures of our ancestors. Arriving in America is one of the most traumatic things a person can do. Fortunately, there are highly rated organizations that provide services and resources to individuals and families to ease their transition into life here.

The following organizations receive three or four stars from Charity Navigator and are working on a spectrum of immigration-related issues ranging from immigration policy reform to helping immigrants settle and achieve success in the United States. Keep reading to learn more about the ways these charities are serving this population.   

American Immigration Council
Honoring our immigrant past; shaping our immigrant future

The American Immigration Council is a powerful voice in promoting policies and legislation that honor America’s history as a nation of immigrants. Through research and policy analysis, litigation and communications, and international exchange, the Council seeks to create a fair American immigrant experience.

Texas Civil Rights Project
Legal advocacy to empower Texas communities and create policy change

The Texas Civil Rights Project is a coalition of practicing lawyers who work to advance social change. They are working for equality and justice inside and outside of the court system. One facet of their program is working with individuals and families caught up in immigration cases.

National Immigration Law Center

Protecting and promoting the rights of low-income immigrants and their family members

National Immigration Law Center staff are working to advance just and humane immigration reform policies that are in line with America’s core values. Ultimately, their legal actions are centered on promoting the full integration of all immigrants into U.S. society.

Catholic Legal Immigration Network Inc. promotes the dignity and rights of immigrants in partnership with a dedicated network of Catholic and community legal immigration programs.

American Civil Liberties Union Foundation

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Foundation is the fundraising arm of the ACLU. They raise funds to advance social policy and legislation on a spectrum of issues including immigrants rights. The ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project is dedicated to expanding and enforcing the civil liberties and rights of immigrants and combating public and private discrimination against them.

Human Rights Initiative
Because human rights are for everyone, no matter where they are from

The Human Rights Initiative provides legal support and services to represent immigrant victims of violence. They defend immigrants and their children who have suffered human rights abuses, like human trafficking, or domestic abuse, and advocate for justice and international human rights.

Hispanic Federation

Taking Hispanic causes to heart

The Hispanic Federation is a leader in the fight for progressive immigration reforms nationally and on the local, state, and regional levels. They work hard to advance immigrant rights and empower new immigrants to succeed through a variety of programs.

With justice for All

Founded in the wake of September 11, OneAmerica was created to address backlash, hate crimes and discrimination against immigrant communities of color. Today the organization is a leader in state and national coalitions working on immigrant rights and integration. They do this through empowering people of color and their allies to lead grassroots community change.

National Immigration Forum

Immigrants are America

The National Immigration Forum advocates for the value of immigrants and immigration to our nation. They seek to promote federal immigration policies that address our modern economic and national security needs while honoring the values of America’s Founding Fathers. They work through policy analysis, communications, and coalition building to advance immigration legislation.

Upwardly Global
A resource for skilled immigrants. An opportunity for America.

Once they’re here, Upwardly Global works with immigrants to help them integrate into the American workforce. More than 2 million immigrants and refugees living in the United States today have college degrees. Upwardly Global seeks to connect these individuals with meaningful work to ease their transition.

There's been a surge of donations to "Reunite an immigrant parent with their child" on Facebook, money is sent to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) in Texas. Can you please comment or rate this charity? Thank you.

I support the good work it does and happy to contribute to its fund drive to aid immigrant families separated from their children due to Trumps zero tolerance policy as they attempted to seek asylum.

@Andrea, we’re working on gathering relevant data for RAICES regarding their rating eligibility. We hope to have an update soon.

It would be useful to at least put a placeholder page up that shows in the search results for "RAICES", "RAICES Texas", or "raicestexas.org". That way visitors will know Charity Navigator is working on gathering data.

I am really impressed with the work of such organizations who are helping individuals and families to live in America this is the reason US states are superpower among the whole world.
