Things We Love: Philanthropy Inspired by Puppies!

It’s the day we’ve all been waiting for… Take Your Dog to Work Day! That’s why today’s list of featured charities is all about highly-rated organizations helping our furry friends.

At Charity Navigator, we’re lucky enough to celebrate Take Your Dog to Work Day throughout the year. From time to time, a coworker will come to work with their fluffy companion which guarantees a good day for all*. Who doesn’t enjoy taking a break from the computer to pet an adorable pup?

To celebrate today’s canine colleagues, we’re sharing a list of 3- and 4-star charities that are working to improve the lives of dogs through funding medical research, fighting animal cruelty, and joining homeless pups with their forever homes.

*Sorry, cat lovers.

Helping dogs live longer, healthier lives!

The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation supports research that will improve the health and lives of all dogs. The Foundation achieves this by awarding grants to scientists and professionals in research that address the origins of canine illness, the diagnosis of canine diseases, the development of effective treatments and the identification of disease prevention strategies.

Morris Animal Foundation

Advancing the health of animals through science

Since 1950, the Morris Animal Foundation has invested over $44 million in more than 970 canine health studies. They’ve contributed to early research that led to the parvovirus vaccine and development of genetic tests for heart disease, eye diseases, and seizure disorders. They are also on the forefront of funding canine cancer research. The Foundation believes that animals make the world a better place. And their team is committed to improving the lives of animals everywhere.

Animal Welfare Institute

Dedicated to alleviating suffering inflicted on animals by humans

The Animal Welfare Institute is committed to ending human-inflicted suffering for animals from pets to livestock to marine life. They are currently raising awareness for puppy mills, the dog meat trade, and companion animal abuse. And, they are fighting to end cruel treatment of animals everywhere.

Best Friends Animal Society
☆☆☆ + Impact
Save Them All

Best Friends Animal Society is working to bring about a time when there are no more homeless pets. They do this by helping end the killing in America’s animal shelters through building community programs and partnerships all across the nation. They believe that by working together, we can Save Them All.

American Veterinary Medical Foundation
Dedicated to developing resources to advance the science and practice of veterinary medicine

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation is one of the oldest and largest veterinary medical organizations in the world.
