Top 8 Podcasts for Nonprofit Advice, Tips & Motivation

Whether you’re a nonprofit professional or simply interested in the field, you’ll want to add these podcasts to your queue. They range from discussions on social impact to practical advice for individuals working in the charitable sector, to professional wisdom from leaders who’ve “made it”, and heartwarming stories to keep you motivated through the busiest parts of the year.

As a whole, the Charity Navigator team engages with lots of blogs, podcasts, and forums on tips and trends in the nonprofit sector. We recently shared a list of nonprofit blogs we think everyone should follow. Today we’re following it up with a handful of podcasts you’ll want to listen to.

If you’re looking for discussions on social impact:

  • Stanford Social Innovation Review Podcast

The Stanford Social Innovation Review is an academic thought leader on social change. Their podcast features talks from individuals who are finding creative ways to make a big impact through fundraising, measurement and evaluation, and technology. This is a great listen for sector professionals and people with an academic interest in how we change the world.

  • Impact Boom
The Impact Boom podcast and accompanying blog feature voices from many different sectors that are challenging the way things have always been done in the name of radical social change. From education to design to social enterprise, this podcast offers unique stories that are certain to keep listeners thinking long after the episode has ended.

If you’re looking for practical tips and advice:

  • Nonprofit Hub Radio

These “Hubcasts” recap information provided in Nonprofit Hub’s articles and webinars, along with interviews from nonprofit professionals. They offer practical advice for individuals working in many parts of the nonprofit sector.

  • sgENGAGE Podcast
This podcast by Blackbaud, an industry leader in data systems, offers “filters off” nonprofit advice for sector professionals. Episode topics include everything from how to be a better manager, to engaging your employees, to improving your donor communications and user experience.

If you’re looking for professional wisdom:

  • Classy

This podcast from our friends at Classy features stories from leaders in the nonprofit sector. Each season they focus on a new facet of the nonprofit world, like Fundraising, IT, and Marketing. We think their episode with Shannon McCracken, Charity Navigator’s Chief Development Officer, is a great place to start. :)

  • The Global Shuffle

Each week, host Derek Vollebregt interviews a new leader who is leveraging innovation to make waves of change. While the show isn’t nonprofit specific, his interviews offer interesting perspectives and advice from leaders in their respective fields that anyone can enjoy.

If you’re looking for inspiration:

  • Good Journey Pod

Sometimes you just need to hear that things are getting better. This podcast from Nonprofit Supply Co. shares motivational social impact stories. It’s great for nonprofit professionals and social changemakers alike.

  • Nonprofit Optimist

If you’ve been in the nonprofit field long enough, you know that it gets tough. Those days that turn into weeks of things that just don’t seem to go right or get better. The next time you’re in the rut, tune into Nonprofit Optimist. It features success stories from leaders that are starting, running, and growing small nonprofits that are bound to provide the encouragement you need.
