Best Charities to Donate to in the Summer

Summer’s here! Many of us have been counting down the days until our vacations for months or trying to see how many beach trips we can squeeze in while the weather and water are warm. 

Keep reading for a list of charities we think you should know about this summer.

Did you know July is National Anti-Boredom Month? If you’re a parent to school-aged children, there’s a good chance you’ve already started to hear your kids whine, “I’m bored!”. Take a look at these highly-rated charities that are offering creative solutions to keep your kids active and involved this summer.

Because apathy sucks

DoSomething.org is mobilizing young people in every US area code and in 131 countries! You can use their platform to sign up for a volunteer, social change, or civic action campaign to make a real-world impact on the cause you care about. Together, DoSomething members who have clothed half of America’s homeless youth, cleaned up 3.7 million cigarette butts, and run the largest youth-led sports equipment drive.

Play matters for all kids

KaBOOM! Is the national nonprofit dedicated to bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives of all kids, particularly those growing up in poverty in America. Their vision is to see all kids get the childhood they deserve fun and play so they can thrive.

Reading is doctor-recommended

Reach Out and Read is a nonprofit organization that gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. The effectiveness of the Reach Out and Read model is recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics in a policy statement that recommends early literacy promotion as an essential component of pediatric care.

While many of us enjoy trips to the beach, lakes, or rivers to cool off during the summer months, clean, drinkable and swimmable water is not a guarantee for everyone around the world. Here are a few charities working to protect our global waters--making them healthier places for the animals that live in them and the people who rely on them.

1 in 9 people doesn’t have clean water close to home. WaterAid America works with local partners to find the best solution for getting clean water to everyone, everywhere. The organization is also working to expand access to toilets and hygiene education to people around the world.

Water for People exists to promote the development of high-quality drinking water and sanitation services, accessible to all, and sustained by strong communities, businesses, and governments. They envision a world where every person has access to reliable and safe water and sanitation services.
