The Paris Call for Trust & Security: How to Own Your Digital Citizenship

We live in an increasingly digital world and we are all, whether we like it or not, digital citizens. We spend the majority of our time interacting in the digital space. We work online, shop online, and communicate online.

As the world becomes more and more digital, the threat of cyber attacks and cyber warfare increases as well. At Charity Navigator, we believe that we can’t live in fear of these things, but we can take a stand against them. That’s why we’re helping to spread the word about the Paris Call for Trust and Security, and Microsoft’s subsequent Digital Peace Now Initiative. This movement is intended to raise awareness around the need for increased and improved cybersecurity, and encourage people to put an end to cyber warfare and take actions to keep cyber attacks from spreading into the physical world.

At the heart of the Paris Call for Trust and Security and the Digital Peace Now initiative is a belief that world peace is not possible without digital peace. They are calling on ordinary citizens, like you and me, to understand the responsibilities of living in the digital space and demand that our leaders do the same.

We live in a world where our leaders and our governments can use technology as a weapon. Cyber attacks can quickly move offline and devastate individuals, communities, and even entire countries. As neighbors in this digital society, we must come together to show that we believe in and support ethical uses of technology--uses that foster healthy communication and connectivity that can improve lives around the world.

At Charity Navigator, we know that our users share this value. That’s we’re helping to spread the word about this new initiative. We remain committed to taking steps to improve our cybersecurity and using technology responsibly to improve the world we live in.

Will you join us in this commitment?

By signing the Digital Peace Now petition you are agreeing to “defend the global digital society on which we depend” by using your voice and your vote. You are taking action and that saying you believe there is no peace without digital peace.

We hope you will come alongside us and your digital neighbors in committing to protect our online world today.
